WritingFever Daily Writing Prompt #1– Cure Your Writer’s Block for Romance Fiction
WritingFever Daily Prompt #1 – A Love Beyond Life
So, you want to write romance, but your brain is running on empty? No sparks, no butterflies, just the blank page staring back at you like a disappointed love interest in a slow-burn novel? Well, fear not! Today’s writing prompt is here to jolt your creativity back to life—literally.
The Prompt:
Character A dies (tragic, I know), but instead of resting in peace, they wake up in a strange, competitive afterlife. Think of it like The Hunger Games meets The Good Place. To earn their second chance at life, they must compete against other souls.
But there’s a catch: Character A isn’t just fighting to return to the mortal world for any reason. No, they have someone waiting for them—Character B, their true love, their soulmate, the one person they can’t leave behind.
Here’s the twist: while Character A is fighting their way back, Character B is corrupting their own soul, journeying to the afterlife to save Character A.
Will they reunite in the land of the living? Will they get stuck in an endless cosmic tug-of-war? The possibilities are endless, and you get to decide!
Ways to Make This Prompt Shine:
1. Add a Unique Afterlife
Forget the usual pearly gates or shadowy underworld—what if the afterlife was a chaotic bureaucracy where souls had to fill out endless paperwork to get another chance at life? Or a neon-lit casino where they had to gamble with memories to win their resurrection?
2. Play with the Challenges
Maybe Character A has to win a battle against Death himself. Maybe Character B has to strike a deal with a god. Maybe they both have to enter the dreams of the living and leave cryptic messages for each other. The more creative the obstacles, the better!
3. Explore the Emotional Depth
What does it really mean to fight for someone you love? What if they return but don’t remember each other? What if only one can come back? What if one of them gets stuck in the afterlife but can still watch over the other? Angst potential: 10/10.
4. Give It a Genre Twist
This idea can be pure romance, but why not spice it up? Horror? Comedy? Sci-fi? A murder mystery where Character A doesn’t even know how they died? A fantasy epic where the afterlife is ruled by feuding gods? Play with the tone and make it your own!
Your Turn!
Take this prompt and run wild. Write a heartfelt tragedy, a ridiculous rom-com, or a thrilling adventure. And if you do, let me know—I’d love to see where your imagination takes you!
Happy writing! ✍️
